About us

WHO WE ARE

The company was formed, in Cape Town, with the aim of creating an Oil and Gas Training Academy in South Africa.  The founder, Baxolile Zwane, has 20 years’ experience in the Oil and Gas industry.

WHAT WE DO & HOW WE DO IT

There is a huge interest in entering the Oil and Gas Industry in South Africa, but the success rate of new entrants is low. This is due to various reasons, including lack of knowledge and funding. This relatively low success rate has been one of the hindrances in achieving transformation in the Oil and Gas sector.

eMangweni aims to provide people with knowledge to empower them to participate in the Oil and Gas Sector.  This is achieved during the three-day Capacity Building Sessions which provide candidates with the required knowledge and skills. Experienced presenters from the different parts of the value chain are utilized at the training sessions.

eMangweni has been supported by guest speakers from both the public and private sectors e.g. the Department of Energy, the National Energy Regulator of South Africa, Transnet Pipelines and PetroSA.

WHO IT’S FOR

The candidates attending these sessions are equipped with the terminology and jargon used in the industry, the success factors required, the risks and mitigation plans amongst many other topics.  They gain knowledge and understanding of the whole value chain, i.e.

  • Upstream:  Exploration and Production of crude oil and gas;

  • Midstream:  Refining, storage and distribution;

  • Downstream:  Sales and Marketing in the Commercial & Industrial sectors (including owning and operating a fuel service station);

  • Legislation: Different licenses and permits required.

COURSE OFFERING

After attending the three-day training course participants should be able to engage with confidence in conversations regarding the Oil and Gas value chain. Such conversations may lead to deals in the markets and creation of employment through people starting their own businesses.

It is stated in the National Development Plan that it is a plan for the country to eliminate poverty and reduce inequality by 2030 through uniting South Africans, unleashing the energies of its citizens, growing an inclusive economy, building capabilities, enhancing the capability of the state and leaders working together to solve complex problems.

“The single most important investment any country can make is in its people. Education has intrinsic and instrumental value in creating societies that are better able to respond to the challenges of the 21st century. Lifelong learning, continuous professional development and knowledge production alongside innovation are central to building the capabilities of individuals and society as a whole.

According to the Department of Energy’s Annual Report for 2017/18 If we are to achieve the energy vision, as contained in the NDP, skills development in the energy sector is of critical importance.

One of the eight strategic objectives in the Department of Energy’s strategic plan 2015 – 2020 is transformation of the energy sector.”

One of SAPIA’s (South African Petroleum Industry Association) key priorities is to promote industry transformation and skills development. eMangweni aims to also provide a platform for this priority to be achieved, by building an Oil and Gas Training Academy in South Africa.
